The South Florida Water Management District stated in a new directive that it would be increasing protection of 6,400 acres of coastal wetlands which are deemed critical to the Everglades restoration effort.
Detail:
The targeted areas in Cutler and Biscayne Bay are not the only areas they are seeking to protect. SFWMD states that any Environmental Resource Permit (ERP) in the coastal area will undergo strict scrutiny to insure it does not adversely affect the Everglades Plan. The District stated boldly, "The South Florida Water Management District will not allow development to dictate the boundaries of this agency's important environmental projects"
